Rating Notes
- ›50%: Complete loss of the auricle (external ear). DC 6207.
- ›30%: Loss of most of the auricle — significant cosmetic and functional deformity. DC 6207.
- ›10%: Partial loss of the auricle — minor deformity. DC 6207.
- ›0%: Documented but below compensable threshold — service connected but non-compensable.
- ›DC 6207: Loss of auricle.
- ›50%: Complete loss of both auricles.
- ›30%: Complete loss of one auricle.
- ›10%: Deformity of one or both auricles without complete loss.
- ›Hearing loss in the same ear is rated separately under DC 6100 — file both claims.
- ›Associated facial or head scars may be rated separately under DC 7800 (scars) or DC 7801 (burn scars).
- ›Prosthetic ear use does not reduce the rating — document use of auricular prosthesis.
- ›Photographs submitted with the claim provide strong objective evidence of extent of deformity.

Diagnosis or lay evidence
- •DC 6207 — loss of auricle; rated based on extent of outer ear loss or deformity.
- •Service connection pathways: blast/shrapnel injury, burns (combat or training), traumatic amputation, surgical removal.
- •Any associated hearing loss is rated separately under DC 6100.
- •Associated scars (facial or head) may be rated separately under DC 7800/7801.
- •Prosthetic ear (auricular prosthesis) does not eliminate the rating — document use of prosthetic.
- •Partial deformity (not complete loss) is ratable at 10%.

Service Records
- •combat casualty or medical records documenting ear injury, amputation, or burn
- •surgical records showing auricular repair or reconstruction during or after service
- •Line of Duty (LOD) determination if applicable
Medical Evidence
- •ENT or plastic surgery records documenting current auricle status
- •photographs of ear deformity (submitted with claim)
- •audiogram if hearing loss also present
- •prosthetic records if auricular prosthesis used
Lay Evidence (Buddy Statements)
- •personal statement describing the in-service event causing ear loss or deformity
- •buddy statement confirming blast, burn, or combat injury causing ear damage
- •statement describing impact on appearance, hearing, and use of hearing protection
Diagnostic Tests
- •physical examination and visual documentation
- •audiogram if hearing loss present
- •photography for documentation of deformity extent
